Chisinau, 15 March /MOLDPRES/ - A new case of swine fever has been discovered in the Beşghioz from the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauz-Yeri (UTA Gagauz-Yeri), where two female swine were found dead at a household from this village on 12 March. The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) confirmed this case.
The deputy governor of UTA Gagauz-Yeri, Vadim Ceban and the head of the Comrat-based ANSA subdivision, Mihail Tucan, told a today’s news conference that, today morning, the emergency anti-epizootic commission from the region held a meeting, during which it announced quarantine on the territory of the Beşghioz village. At the same time, the autonomy’s authorities approved a complex plan of measures for combating and liquidating the hotbeds.
"Three posts will be placed at entrances into the village and all transport means will be disinfected. The posts will be supervised by the police and troops of carabineers. Also, any movement or transportation of domestic animals in the settlement or outside is banned and pigs will be slaughtered only in authorized points,” Vadim Ceban said.
At present, 132 swine animals are registered in the Beşghioz village.
In the context of the appearance of the hotbed of African swine fever, ANSA monitors the epizootic situation and reminds to owners of swine not to feed the animals with food scraps, not to leave them free and change the clothes before entering animals’ shelters, as well as observe the bio-security norms.
The African swine fever is not dangerous for the man; yet, the disease is spreading quite quickly among the animals and causes serious material damages to agriculture. There is no vaccine. The present vaccination of swine reduces the pressure of the virus, but does not lead to its disappearance. The pork coming from infected animals is not dangerous for people, but is not recommended for consumption.
