Over 6,000 domestic violence victims benefit from state protection in Moldova

Chisinau, 15 March /MOLDPRES/ – The police has issued over 6,000 emergency restraint orders two years after the new legal provisions on the form of protection for victims of domestic violence came into force. The announcement was made today at a press conference by deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), Gheorghe Cavcaliuc.
According to the cited source, about 40 women annually lose their lives as a result of violent actions, and 04 other women commit suicidal behaviour. Daily, police records over 60 cases of family conflicts.
On 16 March 2017, the new legal provisions on the form of victim protection entered into force, by the police application of the Emergency restraint order, and the next day a victim of domestic violence was placed under protection.
According to national police data, were issued 3,877 emergency release orders in 2018, out of which only 11 per cent were violated. Currently, there are 4,243 aggressors in police records, out of which 05 per cent are women.
