Chisinau, 18 March /MOLDPRES/- In the last three years, 405 cases of acute pesticide poisoning have been recorded in Moldova, resulting in 14 dead people. The authorities are organizing, during 18-24 March, actions to promote the rational application of pesticides, entitled "Give priority to health, use pesticides rationally".
The head of the ANSP Information and Communication Service, Olesea Croitor, said that this week, the National Public Health Agency's specialists will organize several activities involving the general public, such as: public discussions, roundtables, trainings, radio and TV programs. At the same time, the heads of the territorial public health centers, through the specialists of the public health protection sections, jointly with the educational institutions, will inform people about the harmful effects of pesticides on health.
ANSP specialists announce that certain pesticides cannot be degraded by microorganisms or the human body and therefore accumulate in organs, soil and plants. Lately, there have been growing phytosanitary products in the country that pose a potential danger to human health, and their irrational use by people who do not have the necessary training can lead to serious health disorders.
In the last three years, 405 cases of acute pesticide poisoning were recorded in Moldova. Only in 2018, due to the inappropriate use of the Valsafid insecticide, three children aged 4-11 years from Flocoasa village, Cantemir district, died.
