Chisinau, 18 March /MOLDPRES/- Carriers operating on international routes have been subjected to inspections by representatives of the National Road Transport Agency (ANTA), the State Tax Service (SFS) and Border Police.
Checks took place yesterday evening at the Moldovan-Romanian border, at the crossing points Sculeni, Leuseni and Costesti. Following the checks, 17 drivers who have violated the conditions of passenger transport have been identified.
"Unfortunately, every time during such inspections, there are found carriers operating illegally, with transportation in precarious condition, which endanger road safety," the state secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure in Transport, Sergiu Bucataru, said.
Bucataru urged drivers providing transport services to legalize their work and emphasized the need to obtain travel tickets only from carriers operating within the legal framework.
According to the Border Police, such actions were also carried out last week at Cahul, Vulcanesti and Giurgiulesti border crossing points, being fined 15 other carriers.
For unlawful transportation of people for a fee, drivers are liable to fines of up to 12500 lei, the registration plates being lifted for a period of six months.
Border Police said that in the context of border operations, a group of passenger carriers tried to block access to Leuşeni crossing point today. The representatives of the National Patrol Inspectorate and Hânceşti Police Inspectorate were informed about this incident and requested their intervention to set the circumstances.
