Chisinau, 19 March /MOLDPRES/ – The National Patrol Inspectorate (INP) has launched operation Girofar (Beacon) today. It is designed to make drivers more responsive and prevent road accidents involving the use of priority traffic vehicles such as fire brigades, ambulances and police cars.
Thus, for three days, the INP employees will monitor the displacement of priority cars on the streets of Chisinau municipality and Moldova's routes, and drivers who do not give priority will be sanctioned. Also, the pedestrians who make traffic difficulties can also be sanctioned, most cases being detected at pedestrian crossings.
The INP announced that just over a few hours after the launch of the operation, there occurred over 20 drivers who did not give priority to beacon cars. According to the legislation, "the drivers who do not give priority to vehicles with light and sound signalling devices in operation are sanctioned by a fine of MDL 750 – 900 with application of 04 penalty points".
The INP urges drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution in traffic and to comply with the Road traffic regulation (RCT), as such violations not only endanger the access of vehicles with priority traffic, but can also create traffic jams or even accidents.
