Italian Design Days to be inaugurated in Moldova

Chisinau, 21 March /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition of Italian Iconic Design titled, Design and City of Future, will be inaugurated at the Mimi Castle from the Bulboaca village, eastern Anenii Noi district, on 23 March. The exhibition represents one of the principal components of opening of the Italian Design Days in Moldova.     

At a news conference, Ambassador of Italy to Moldova Valeria Biagiotti said that the Italian Design Day was an event established in 2017, in order to promote and turn to good account the Italian design – one of the most important excellences and one of the visiting cards of Italy: beginning with fashion to decorative work, from furniture to automobiles. Valeria Biagiotti stressed that, from the moment of establishment, over 300 projects had been carried out within this event in 230 cities from all over the world.   

According to the Italian official, this year, the celebration of the Italian Design Day takes place between two important design events at the world level, whose protagonist is the incontestable capital of the design – Milan. The first event is the XXII International Exhibition of La Triennale di Milano, opened starting from 1 March till 1 September 2019. The second event is the Milan Furniture Fair, which represents the most wished and prestigious stage of the world for indoor design and decorative work, due on 9-14 April.      

Also, the Italian diplomat said that 29,000 enterprises, with a business volume of 4.3 billion euros, out of the 179,000 European design enterprises, which registered an income of more than 25 billion euros, were from Italy. The official emphasized the importance of promoting the Italian design in the context of the social and cultural development, as well as of establishing economic relations between Italy and Moldova. At the same time, the public was informed about surprises they expect at the Mimi Castle.    

The deputy head of the Association for Sustainable Development and Social Well-being, Alexandrin Buraga, said that the exhibition dedicated to the Italian Design Day would host over ten of the most famous Italian brands, among which Ferrari, Smeg, Flos and Vespa, the design of which made history and continues to be an inspiration point for new ideas.    

Special guests from the design and architecture sectors will attend the event. The inauguration of the Italian Design Day in Moldova will start with a workshop, held by the ambassador of the Italian Design Day, Arnaldo Tranti. The Italian architect, who gave a new life to the Mimi Castle, will speak to architects and designers from Moldova about the concept, Design and City of Future, and about the symbiotic connection the shapes objects can have and the way the society evolves.  

The host of the event will be Ambassador of Italy to Moldova Valeria Biagiotti and among the guests, there will be Education, Culture and Research Minister Monica Babuc, Italian architect Patrizio Corno, the ambassador of the Italian Design Day 2018, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau, architects, designers and business people.  

The exhibition of Italian Iconic Design, Design and City of Future, will be opened for all guests of the Mimi Castle on 24-30 March.
