Sappers destroy 234 explosive devices in Stefan Voda

Chisinau, 22 March /MOLDPRES/- A number of 234 explosive devices discovered by a resident in Marianca de Jos, Ştefan Vodă district, during the agricultural works were destroyed by sappers of Codru Battalion from Negreşti.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the engineers have identified 206 artillery shells, 47 mm, 76 mm and 105 mm, three bombs - 82 mm and 50 mm caliber, and 22 warheads.

The munitions were from the World War II, of German production, and were destroyed by sappers.

Since the beginning of this year, sappers have carried out 21 demining missions, in which they liquidated 319 explosive devices of different caliber in different districts of the country.

The Ministry of Defense calls on citizens who detect ammunition during agricultural work to be cautious, not to touch them and to notify the authorities. Regardless of the condition or the age of the ammunition, the danger of it being active and producing an explosion is maximal.

Statistics show that since 1992, 23 people have died and 26 have been injured as a result of incidents that have resulted in the explosion of various munitions. Of the total number of those who suffered, seven children died, and three children were injured.
