Chisinau, 22 March /MOLDPRES/ - The head of Moldova’s delegation, who led the 21 March 2019 meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC), brought again to attention the subject on the working out of a regulation of the Joint Military Command. The initiative comes from the ascertainings made this year, which show an enhancement of the destabilizing actions of the so-called Transnistrian “border guard” military structures in the Security Zone. Such a regulation would allow a prompt reacting to incidents in the Security Zone and a proper documentation of infringements, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.
The concerned proposal was not backed at the meeting; yet, the participants in the event agreed that it would be discussed at a meeting of the co-heads of the Joint Control Commission, with the participation of OSCE’s and Ukraine’s representatives. The head of Russia’s delegation, Ilya Uvarov, informed that the meeting of the co-heads would be held next week.
Also, Moldova’s delegation appealed to all sides involved in the settlement process as to the abuses admitted by Tiraspol’s representatives, as a result of the alleged “decrees” concerning the settlements which are under the constitutional control. The appeal makes reference to abusive actions by the Bender city administration towards the residents of the Varnita village by claiming illegal payments in favour of structures from the region.
The participants in the meeting adopted a decision on supplementing the powers of the military commanders in the Security Zone, following long-lasting discussions at the level of higher military chiefs, which had lasted about ten years. Thus, the military commanders will be able to intervene and carry out investigations jointly with the law-enforcers, if incidents appear between representatives of police, “militia,” customs bodies and military of the peacekeeping forces.
