Moldovan environmental organisations to take actions on Global Recycling Day

Chisinau, 22 March /MOLDPRES/ – The topic of conference, entitled: 3R Moldova: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle e – Waste had generic: We recycle for a cleaner future, held on 21 March in Chisinau on occasion of the Global Recycling Day (GRD). The event was organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM) in partnership with the Association for Waste Recovery (AVD).

"The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) has launched the GRD in 2018 to recognise the benefits of recycling internationally. The aim is to increase the common involvement of people around the world over the need to preserve 6 primary resources: water, air, coal, oil, natural gas and minerals, as well as capitalising on the 7th one – waste recycling. The current theme sounds: We recycle for a cleaner future and actions at the international level, including in Moldova, are focused on the power of young people, education and innovation to ensure a brighter future for a cleaner planet. By means of such activities the world is encouraged to look at the impact that young people can have today on recycling," specified at the conference the Secretary of State at MADRM, Valentina Tapis.

According to organisers, Moldova takes part in this event, throughout campaigns for reduction, reuse and recycling of electrical and electronic equipment waste.

"Also, on this occasion, the environmental organisations will carry out a series of info actions, awareness and ecological education, debates and roundtables. The Association for Waste Management has coordinated the promotion of the Guide of practical and useful activities set by the Global Recycling Foundation (GRF) with the educational institutions and conducts ecological hours," said Valentina Tapis.

One million tonnes of waste are produced in Moldova yearly. Currently, there are 36 authorised operators within waste collection and recycling, 18 of which are only recycling.
