Chisinau, 25 March /MOLDPRES/- Over 100 tons of grapes were sold at the fair held yesterday in the capital. The event brought together about 20 producers in our country. Acting mayor of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu said today that such fairs will be organized in Chisinau to support domestic producers.
Diana Crudu, the entrepreneur from Chisinau, who came up with the initiative of organizing the fair, said she has another 15 tons of grapes in storage. She said that the fair results exceeded expectations and will participate in other events of this kind.
Codreanu noted that a similar fair will be held in the capital next Sunday, as producers still have grapes in refrigerators. At the same time, he proposed organizing fairs in all districts of the capital, so that farmers can market their goods, and residents can buy fresh fruits directly from the producer.
The initiative to hold the fair came after several Moldovan farmers announced they still have large reserves of grapes in storage and are likely to incur large financial losses. In this context, the producers urged consumers to give gift of grapes instead of flowers.
According to statistics, Moldovan producers collected 680,000 tons of grapes last year from a total area of 128,000 hectares of vine.
