As many as 1,800 people buy dwellings under First Home programme in Moldova

Chisinau, 26 March /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 1,800 persons have bought their own dwellings one year since the launch of the First Home programme. Finance Minister Ion Chicu made statements to this effect at a news conference today.
The minister noted that, despite criticism, the programme had yielded results much above expectations. “I have trusted the programme and I was its ardent promoter. Along with the colleagues from the ministry, I saw its advantages and what beneficial influence it has on the participants in the process. The key of the success is that the state was dealing with the support of the beneficiaries at all stages of crediting up to its reimbursement,” Chicu said.
The official informed that the happiest data were dealing with the extensions of the programme, First Home 2 and First Home 3, through which more than 750 families who work in the public sector and have children purchased dwellings. “A number of 64 teachers, more health sector, public order and other public field employees have bought dwellings. This is an extra possibility to attract young people to get employed in state’s structures and a way of stimulating the demography,” Chicu added.
The minister said that, in next June, if a new cabinet is sworn in office, the First Home 4 extension is to be implemented too. The extension will come up with facilities for the programme’s beneficiaries, depending on the contributions paid by them.
Data by the Organization for Medium and Small Enterprises Sector Development (ODIMM) shows that 73 per cent of all beneficiaries are young families and the rest are young unmarried persons. The average age of the applicants is 31 years.
The total area of the real estate bought by beneficiaries is of 106,000 square metres; the average area of a flat is 59 square metres. As much as 94 per cent of all dwellings were purchased in cities and towns and the rest – in villages. At the same time, most beneficiaries or 92.5 per cent chose to buy a flat from the loan got and the rest of the people purchased houses.
ODIMM has recently launched a technical instrument, through which the beneficiaries of the First Home programme can check the state of the file in online regime. The institution launched a new technical application which facilitates access to information through a single click, by accessing the webpage www.odimm.md.
The First Home governmental programme was launched at an initiative by Prime Minister Pavel Filip on 26 March 2018.
