Influenza makes victim in south Moldova autonomy

Chisinau, 26 March /MOLDPRES/ - A 52-year-old man from the Comrat district, south Moldova Gagauz autonomy, died of influenza last week. Thus, the number of deaths triggered by this virus has reached 31 since the beginning of the cold season. 

According to the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, on the period 1 October 2018 – 4 March 2019, 2,115 cases of flu, 243,352 cases of acute respiratory infections were registered in Moldova. At the same time, on this period, 31 cases of death were recorded, confirmed with the presence of the flu virus A (H1N1). All people who died had not been vaccinated against the seasonal flu.  

Last week, specialists registered 44 cases of seasonal influenza, 12 confirmed in laboratory, 8,063 cases of acute infections of upper respiratory ways and 386 cases of severe acute respiratory infections. Samples collected from people sick with flu showed the presence of the virus A (H1N1) and A (H3N2).    

To avoid the falling sick, epidemiologists recommend that citizens do not resort to self-treatment and appeal to doctor at the appearance of the first symptoms compatible with influenza. Also, it is necessary that ill persons avoid contact with pregnant women, immune-compromised people, persons sick with cardiovascular diseases, chronic diseases of the respiratory apparatus, diabetes and obesity.
