Moldova's consul in Odessa suspected of passive corruption

Chisinau, 2 April /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s Consul in Odessa, Ukraine, is banned from leaving the country for a 30-day period, being suspected of passive corruption.
According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, law-enforcers today made raids at Moldova’s Consulate in Odessa in a file on passive corruption.
Thus, prosecutors found out that, on 6 April 2018, Moldova’s consul from Odessa would have issued a long-term stay permit to a citizen of Arab origin for a period of 60 days, contrary to the provisions of law. The diplomat would have claimed and received a sum of 100 euros for the services provided. The suspect did not recognize his fault after hearings.
A criminal file was opened against the official for passive corruption. If found guilty, he runs the risk of being imposed a fine worth up to 100,000 lei, with the deprivation of right to hold certain public offices for a period of up to five years.
