Moldovan Party of Socialists refuses to back minority government

Chisinau, 9 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Party of Socialists (PSRM) does not deem as possible the support of a minority government and will put forward Zinaida Grecianii for the office of parliament speaker. The PSRM leadership has made statements to this effect at the end of a joint meeting of the PSRM Political Executive Committee and parliamentary faction.    

PSRM leader Zinaida Grecianii said that the Socialists were willing to create a fully functional parliamentary majority, a cabinet and governance action programme fully backed by this majority. “PSRM does not deem as possible the support of a minority government for more reasons; first of all, political, functional grounds, as well as operational ones. We are in continuation confident that the best solution is the unlocking of the parliament’s work and not allowing the snap parliamentary elections,” Grecianii said.    

She noted that PSRM was reconfirming its willingness to continue discussions in order to overcome the political crisis emerged. At the same time, Grecianii reiterated that any eventual political configuration and agreement cannot be made at any price, by ignoring the citizens’ will.

The PSRM leadership also announced a string of principles due to stay at the basis of the dialogue for the creation of a ruling coalition, among which: guaranteeing the statehood, neutrality of Moldova (by not joining the NATO or another military bloc) and the country’s reintegration; a balanced foreign policy; observance of the rights of citizens, no matter the nationality and ethnic affiliation; social equity and protection of the traditional values.  

The PSRM leader informed that she would propose three packages of subjects for the creation of the parliamentary majority and PSRM’s participation in the governance for consideration by the party’s Republican Council, due on 12 April 2019.
