Chisinau, 10 April /MOLDPRES/ - Over 100 unauthorized waste landfills have been lately discovered on the territory of the Gagauz autonomy. The deputy head of the Ecological Inspectorate of the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauz-Yeri (UTA Gagauz-Yeri), Evgheni Şevcenco, made statements for the region’s media on 9 April.
According to Şevcenco, the inspectorate found 116 unauthorized waste landfills, placed on an area of about 30 hectares.
At the same time, Sevcenco noted that ten waste landfills had been already liquidated within a campaign on area’s arrangement and greening, presently carried out in UTA Gagauz-Yeri.
"The works are held in Comrat, in the settlements, Bujac, Svetlii, etc. We plan to evacuate all these waste landfills till late next May,” Evgheni Sevcenco said.
At the same time, he warned about the fact that a lot of waste landfills had appeared immediately after being liquidated and were created just by local residents.
“We make proper order and these waste landfills appear exactly on the same place during the year. It is important that points of organized waste evacuation be created in all settlements. We would thus manage to avoid unauthorized waste landfills,” Evgheni Şevcenco said, cited by www.gagauzinfo.md.
Under the national waste management strategy, eight regional inter-communal associations of waste management are to be set up in Moldova. They will propose the bases of an integrated system of waste management, depending on the area, number of residents, transfer stations, etc. A large waste landfill is to be created in the southern Cahul city, with a transfer station in Taraclia, which is to serve the districts of Comrat, Ceadar-Lunga, Vulcanesti, Taraclia, Cimislia, Cantemir and Leova.
