Moldovan food safety agency’s specialists offer recommendations for Easter products purchase

Chisinau, 16 April /MOLDPRES/ – Specialists of the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) formulated a series of recommendations regarding the purchase of Easter products.

They have warned consumers to buy food only from specially designed and licensed places that have undergone veterinary control.

When purchasing meat, consumers need to know that it should be elastic, from pink to dark red. A simple test can help buyers determine if the meat is fresh. Thus, by pressing with your finger it must return to the original shape and not have the sticky, odorous surface. The shelf life of the meat must be written by the manufacturer on the label. For fresh meat, sellers must present on request the veterinary certificate indicating the date of slaughter and term of validity of the meat or, in the case of agrifood markets, the veterinary check.

Those who buy couscous must carefully read the info on the product label, date of manufacture, terms of validity, and check the ingredients used and storage conditions.

Another non – fat product on the Easter table is the egg. The consumers should avoid buying eggs with cracked shell, dirty or broken. Also, when breaking eggs, they must not have cloudy or mixed with the yolk. The eggs can be eaten within 28 days of laying, which is indicated on the product.

The ANSA specialists have also recommended consumers not to buy egg paint in unpacked form because it may be a printing or textile paint and may pose health hazards due to the content of toxic compounds.

Nowadays, many early vegetables such as red radish, cabbage, various salad varieties, green onions, cucumbers appear on the market, and consumers have to make sure products are harmless when purchasing them.

As to eliminate the risks of food poisoning, consumers are advised not to buy expired food, keep food as instructed by the manufacturer, and take account of the manufacturer's instructions for freezing, defrosting and preparing cookies.
