Euro, U.S. dollar continue to appreciate against Moldovan leu

Chisinau, 16 April /MOLDPRES/ – The European single currency (EUR) and U.S. dollar (USD) continue to appreciate against Moldovan leu (MDL), according to the official foreign exchange rates set by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) for 17 April.

Thus, EUR appreciates by MDL 0.06 and costs MDL 20.15 and USD adds MDL 0.07, up to MDL 17.83.

The Romanian leu (RON) gets more expensive as well, increasing with MDL 0.01 up to MDL 04.23.

The cost of Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH) remains unchanged – MDL 0.66. And the Russian rouble (RUB) keeps its price of today – MDL 0.27.

Economic analyst, Veaceslav Ionita, said the MDL has seen the biggest depreciation in recent three years in April, driven in particular by appreciation of EUR against USD on international markets and depreciation of MDL against EUR and USD. Some economists argue that the MDL depreciation trend will continue in upcoming period, including in the context of Moldova's political situation.
