Specialized centres for children, adults hit by autism to work in Moldova

Chisinau, 16 May /MOLDPRES/ - Specialized centres of intervention for children and adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) will work in Moldova. A framework regulation on the centres’ organization and work will be published in the 17 May issue of the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial).
Employees of these centres will offer specialized support to children and young people, to carry out the potential of physical, cognitive, social, affective, communicative development, the development of the capacity of adoption, through the providing of mental, speech health, physiotherapy, psycho-pedagogical and psychological services.
The centres could be set up by the central public administration authorities, local public administration authorities of the level II, non-commercial organizations from Moldova and international ones, by coordination with the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry and local public authorities, in partnership with non-commercial or private organizations.
Children with ages between 3 and 18 years and young people aged from 18 to 25 years with problems of deep psychological development, as well as the parents/legal representatives/servants of the beneficiaries will be able to enjoy the services of the centres.
According to the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, an estimated sum of 1.4 million lei is needed for the creation of one specialized centre of intervention for autism spectrum disorders.
Statistics data shows that about 500 children with autism spectrum disorders are recorded in Moldova.
