Chisinau, 14 June /MOLDPRES/ – Press statements given by the Prime Minister of Moldova, Pavel Filip
Dear colleagues, dear friends,
I invited you here today, first of all, to thank you for everything we have been able to do together. Because you had trust, we could change things in Moldova and because we changed some of them.
We came to the Government not in an easy time at all, with a huge budget hole left by the political crisis and problems in the banking system. It was the crisis, we worked day and night to stabilise the banking sector, get an agreement with the IMF and ensure steady economic growth. We were in a position to fight the bad weather conditions, the snowfalls in April 2017 showed us that we can manage effectively a crisis and protect our citizens. We have succeeded in promoting complicated reforms such as Government reform, pension reform, tax reform, or wage reform.
We also leave behind programmes that we are really proud of: Good Roads, First Home, higher wages, increased pensions, subsidies in agriculture. For all of these, it is provided money in the budget in continuation, we have ensured on it. And I hope the next Government will keep and continue these projects. I already know that accusations of "inheritance left" will come, but, as you have seen, the budget revenues are on the rise.
During this time, our neighbours were next to us: Romania and Ukraine. I want to thank Bucharest for helping us when we needed it, including financially. Neither of us will forget that 4 pilots of the SMURD crew gave their life to a mission in Moldova. I thank Kiev for supporting us in our efforts to defend territorial integrity and restore the control of the state border on the Transnistrian segment.
I think we have been able to show dignity and vertigo all these years, and we felt proud of Moldova when we asked the UN tribunal to withdraw the Russian troops from Moldova and declare it undesirable for those who dared to mock Moldova and its people.
Perhaps all of this has hastened this conclusion. I still believe and hope that we shall come to the day when this country and its people will decide their own fate, but not anyone else from outside Moldova.
My objective throughout this period has been to make our European path turn irreversible. Surely, I never thought we would get to have a conventional pro – European ruling coalition declared in Moldova.
We have decided to present today our resignation from the positions, which, according to the law, we are still exercising. We made this decision first because enormous pressure is being put on civil servants, teachers, police, doctors, and military in recent days. There are people who do their job and obey the country and the law, not politicians. We will not be the reason why these people are in the horrible situation of choosing one camp or another.
I appeal to all civil servants and employees in budgetary institutions to continue to pursue their conscientious work. I also call on the next Government not to launch vendettes and revenge against those who did not want to join any of the camps. The people have been and are on the side of the law and Constitution, and not any political party.
We leave with a clear conscience. All these years I have been governed by law. And in the recent few days, I have fully complied with the Constitution and the laws of Moldova, as I swore three years ago when I came into office.
Also, it is to draw attention to the fact that our leave will not solve the current legal blockage and not invalidate the decisions of the Constitutional Court (CC). The constitutional crisis remains unresolved, I am sure all political actors understand this and I hope they will find a way out of this deadlock.
I thank all those who have written and encouraged us within recent few days. I want you to know that the decision of today does not mean that we are putting our hands down or giving up. We shall continue to work for Moldova, only in other positions.
I thank my colleagues, those who were with me in complicated moments and trusted me. We still remain a strong team.
I thank the family, children, because they have borne my absences and supported me unconditionally.
I wish success to the next Prime Minister. This function comes with great responsibility. For the good of the people, I hope the new PM will do better than I have done.
