Careful Grandparents project marks one year of work in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ - The project, Careful Grandparents, has marked one year of work. A gala has been recently held in Chisinau on this occasion. The participants in the event summed up the activity carried out so far and the best grandparents and grandsons were awarded prizes.
Careful Grandparents has become the biggest volunteering project of Moldova’s history, bringing together over 2,000 people, of which 1,700 grandparents and over 300 young people.
In one year of work, Careful Grandparents has managed, along with careful grandsons, the most involved policemen, as well as members of local public administration, partners of the national police and of the Careful Grandparents public association, to organize more than 12,000 activities of children’s safety nearby education institutions and leisure camps for children. Also, 752 traffic sign were set at dangerous crosswalks nearby education institutions with the inscription, Be Attentive, Careful Grandparents!.
At the same time, over 3,000 social activities of informing children and the society were carried out, 42 offices were inaugurated, where careful grandparents carry out their work, in all Moldovan districts and in those five districts of the Chisinau municipality.
The project’s initiator is the former deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate, colonel Gheorghe Cavcaliuc. According to him, the project was conceived in order to join efforts to enhance the safety of children on their way to and from school and reducing the dangers nearby education institutions, prevent the cases of suicide among minors, prevent cases of suicide among adults, with their reintegration in the society in a new capacity, by turning to account their life wisdom and experience, in order to educate the young generation.
The head of the Careful Grandparents association, Galina Cotorobai, said that the first activity year had been intense, with 1,700 grandparents from all over Moldova involved in the project.
The members of the Careful Grandparents project voice hope that the project will continue.
