Chisinau, 23 August /MOLDPRES/ – In upcoming days, the ordinary control activities will be supplemented at the border, and the border guards will activate at maximum capacity, as it is expected that at some crossing points, the number of crossings will double or even triple, compared to an ordinary day.

The actions will be implemented starting today and over the following 08 days. The decision was announced by the Border Police (PF), as the budget will have a four – day minivacation on Independence Day, and many Moldovan citizens will be eager to spend their free time abroad, but also go to the market in Ukraine, in the context of the preparations for the beginning of school year.

Thus, the officials estimate that on border with Ukraine, in the next period there will be an increased flow at several crossing points, such as Palanca, Tudora, Criva and Mirnoe. Also, at the Moldovan – Romanian border, busiest crossing point is Leuseni. In the coming days, the number of crossings is expected to double or even triple, compared to an average day.

So as to avoid the formation of queues and prevent considerable increase of waiting times, the border guards recommend to citizens to avoid the most crowded border crossing points and opt for others nearby.

The actions to be implemented to streamline traffic include increasing the number of employees, opening all lanes on crossing points and redirecting the flow from one direction of travel to another (entry/exit).

According to the PF's data, in 2018, on 23 – 31 August, at the border of Moldova, there were registered 785,000 persons and 165,000 vehicles crossed on both traffic directions.
