Commemoration ceremony held at memorial complex in eastern Moldova

Chisinau, 24 August /MOLDPRES/ – Speaker of Parliament, Zinaida Greceanii, together with President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, MPs, officials from Moldova and Russia, representatives of diplomatic corps, veterans have participated on Saturday, 24 August, at Commemoration Ceremony: Dincolo de tacere … (Beyond silence…) at Memorial Complex Cap de Pod Serpeni organised on occasion of 75 years since the liberation of Moldova from fascist occupation, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

"We shall not permit rewriting of history, retouching of historical symbolism of the day of 24 August, we shall not admit forgetting the enormous importance that victory has, for which our compatriots also fought. Three hundred thousand inhabitants of Moldova fought in the Red Army during World War II (WWII) for the Defence of the Motherland, 18 of them became Heroes of the Soviet Union (SU). Over 60,000 persons died like heroes”, said SP on this occasion.

On 24 August 1944, following operation Iasi – Chisinau, Chisinau was freed from fascist occupation. This year, on the occasion of 75 years since the liberation of Moldova, there have been organised more events, and restored monuments and memorials.
