Moldova marks 28th anniversary of independence

Chisinau, 27 August /MOLDPRES/- The Republic of Moldova is today marking the 28th anniversary of the proclamation of Independence, voted by the parliament on August 27, 1991. The holiday will be marked in the capital and other localities of the country through many events.
In Chisinau, the holiday started traditionally with flower arrangements. Thus, in the morning President Igor Dodon, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii and Prime Minister Maia Sandu laid flowers at the memorial complex Maica indurerata. Along with the top leadership of the country, the event was attended by MPs, government members and representatives of diplomatic staff accredited in Chisinau.
Later, the officials will lay flowers at the Monument of ruler Stefan cel Mare in the center of the capital.
During the day, festive events dedicated to Independence Day will be held on the Great National Assembly Square. At the same time, a fair of folk craftsmen entitled Treasure will be held too.
In the evening, starting from 5 pm, the government will organize talks with citizens.
The events will culminate in the evening with a concert in the square. Cătălin Josan, Mani, Cristina Scarlat, Via Dacă, Cristofor Aldea-Teodorovici, Ion Paladi, Surorile Osoianu, Ioana Căpraru, Lidia Bejenaru, Lilia Roșca, Nicolae Ciubotaru, Tatiana Jacotă, Pasha Parfeni, La La Play Voices, Moldovan National Youth Orchestra, Joc folk dance band, Lautarii Orchestra and Crenguta de ledera band will perform on stage.
According to the agenda of events, a reception celebrating 28 years of independence will be organized by the Presidency.
The Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova was adopted by the Parliament on August 27, 1991.
