Moldovan leadership laid flowers at Stefan cel Mare monument

Chisinau, 27 August /MOLDPRES/- Today the country’s leadership laid flowers at the monument Maica indurerata and Stefan cel Mare on the 28th anniversary of independence.
President Igor Dodon and Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii came first to the monument of Stefan cel Mare. They were followed by Prime Minister Maia Sandu. MPs, government members, representatives of diplomatic staff, politicians laid flowers too.
The head of state said that Moldova faced many challenges, "but it is important that we go ahead and have maintained the statehood, which we must now consolidate."
"28 years ago, on August 27, 1991, the Independence of the Republic of Moldova was proclaimed. That exceptional historical moment offered us the opportunity to build our country, economy, society, future with our own efforts. In the short recent history of the Republic of Moldova we have had all the good and the bad. We have enough human and intellectual potential to become a modern and fulfilled state, and if we continue to demonstrate politeness and political maturity, if we are united and well-intentioned, we will achieve the highest goals for the country and leave the next generations prosperous Moldova,” the message reads.
Greceanii said “it is important for us to be united and to understand that we have a common history and a future that, through joint effort, we can do well.” The official expressed confidence that in the future, the Republic of Moldova will be able to meet all challenges and overcome all difficulties.
Maia Sandu congratulated Moldovan citizens on 28 years of independence. “We laid flowers with citizens of our country who have defended freedom and democracy. Moldova cannot be fully independent when it has a foreign army on its territory and when it has no energy independence. There are many things we have to do, ”said Maia Sandu.
Events dedicated to Independence Day are held today in several localities of the country.
The Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova was adopted by the Parliament on August 27, 1991.
