Former presidents to be no longer entitled to office, personal assistant, only to benefit from cars "on request" in Moldova

Chisinau, 30 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Moldovan Presidents, after the term of office, will no longer have the right to office, personal assistant and only benefit from cars "upon request", according to a draft law approved positively in the meeting of Government, on Friday, 30 August.
The draft law provides for exclusion of provisions of the Law regarding the assurance of activity of the President of Moldova regarding the provision of office and personal assistant to the person who held the highest position in the state. Another amendment stipulates that the former heads of state can benefit from the car "on request".
The amendments to legislation, adopted on 09 December 2016, stipulated that in the event of expiry of mandate, resignation or permanent impossibility to exercise the duties of the person who held the position of President of Moldova, he is provided with office, personal assistant and permanent means of transport for 04 years.
The authors of draft law, approved by Executive today, note that the cancellation of concerned facilities aims to make the management of budgetary resources more efficient, in the context of the need to rationalise the expenses.
The document is to be examined by Parliament.
According to legislation, in case of expiry of mandate, resignation or permanent impossibility to exercise the duties, the person who has held the position of President of Moldova benefits from a pension, free medical assistance for life and, once a year, spa treatment, free sanatorium, diplomatic immunity, security assurance.
