Moldova to receive 4.1 million euros for implementing project in health sector

Chisinau, 10 September /MOLDPRES/ - A project titled, Progress on universal coverage with health services in Moldova, was launched in Chisinau today. The project will have an overall budget of 4.1 million euros and will be implemented in the next four years.
The project will provide needed assistance and expertise for improving the capacity of financing and governance of the health system, as well as for strengthening the capacities of purchasing and supply of health services. The technical assistance will be provided for the institutionalization of the mechanism of assessing medical technologies, due to be applied to adjust the package of services covered by the mandatory health insurance. This will allow, in particular, optimizing and extending the list of compensated medicines.
At the project’s launch, the deputy director of the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development (SDC), Viorica Cretu, has said that the project would be focused on ensuring a universal coverage with medical services, i.e. for all citizens, no matter the gender, place of residence or ethnic affiliation.
The project will be implemented nationally and its end beneficiaries are users of the health services, especially from the poorest social group, who are presently worst hit by the expenses for health. The target groups include central and local public authorities, institutions and professionals from the health sector, National Health Insurances Company, National Public Health Agency, Medicines and Medical Devices Agency, members of the competent parliamentary commission, as well as the civil society’s organizations.
The project’s carrying out will provided by the World Bank and the Swiss Red Cross, with the financial support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Moldova. The project’s coordination nationally will be provided by the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry.
