Moldovan foreign affairs ministry hosts meeting of National Committee on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings

Chisinau, 10 September /MOLDPRES/ - The progress in the field of combating the trafficking in human beings for the first half of 2019, as well as the deficiencies and goals for the immediately next period have been discussed at a meeting of the National Committee on Combating the Trafficking in Human Beings, chaired by Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s press service has reported.
The participants in the meeting heard reports unveiled by the centre for combating the trafficking of people, Prosecutor General’s Office, Health, Labour and Social Protection and department for permanent secretariats on the present situation in Moldova and progress made in the sector of trafficking of human beings for the first half of 2019. The participants also pointed out the deficiencies and objectives for the immediately next period.
Also, Minister Popescu said that the efforts undertaken by Moldova in fighting the trafficking of human beings were appreciated by the international community, especially referring to the Report on the Trafficking of People of the United States Department of State and the classification as regards the situation of the trafficking of persons in Moldova in 2018 and 2019.
Attending the event were representatives of central public authorities, international partners and members of relevant non-governmental organizations.
