Moldovan speaker meets counterparts from several Council of Europe member states

Chisinau, 22 October /MOLDPRES/- In the context of the participation in the European Conference of Speakers of Council of Europe member states, Speaker Igor Grosu had several meetings with counterparts from other states, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The bilateral agenda between the countries was discussed with Speaker of Georgia Kakha Kuchava. The officials agreed on boosting economic and trade relations between Moldova and Georgia.
Igor Grosu reiterated Moldova's interest in the Associated Memorandum Trio - Republic of Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine. According to the speaker, the European aspirations of our countries contribute essentially to the development of bilateral cooperation.
The commitments on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries were also reaffirmed, as well as the fact that the citizens of both countries must feel the benefits of change.
Also, the speaker talked to Jan Anthonie Bruijn, speaker of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Igor Grosu referred to Parliament's priorities for the 11th legislature, including reforming the judiciary and ensuring respect for human rights.
The speaker thanked for the support provided by the Kingdom of the Netherlands over the time of the Republic of Moldova in terms of consolidating democracy, modernizing the country, and in the fight against Covid-19.
The officials agreed to step up the interaction to achieve the proposed development goals and ensure better living conditions for citizens.
On the sidelines of the European Conference of Speakers of the member states of the Council of Europe, Igor Grosu also had a meeting with Valentina Matvienko, head of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
Igor Grosu and Valentina Matvienko discussed several important issues on the bilateral agenda, including the issue of exports of Moldovan agricultural products to the Russian market, the settlement of the Transnistrian issue and the new gas supply contract for our country.
The speaker reiterated that the Chisinau government wants a pragmatic and constructive dialogue, which should be in the interest of both parties.
In Athens, Grosu also had a meeting with speaker of Latvia Ināra Mūrniece, and reiterated the positive dynamics of Moldovan-Latvian bilateral relations over the years. He thanked the Latvian friends for their constant active support in the European integration of Moldova both bilaterally and in the discussions at European level.
Gratitude was also expressed for the support provided to our country in the management of the Covid-19 pandemic. In this context, the identification of tools to combat manipulation and misinformation in the field of vaccination against Covid-19 was discussed.
At the same time, the speaker referred to the priorities of the Chisinau Parliament, among which - the reform of the judiciary, the fight against corruption and the consistent continuation of the European path. "The current government is determined to bring order to the state institutions and work in the interest of the citizens," Igor Grosu said.
He had another meeting with speaker of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova. The two officials opted for boosting and developing relations at the level of parliamentary and governmental groups.
At the same time, topics related to collaboration on the energy sector were addressed, being noted the existence of a very high potential for their development.
Also, Igor Grosu and Sahiba Gafarova spoke about the cooperation of the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Azerbaijan in the commercial-economic sector and at the same time attracting investments in our country.
He spoke with head of the National Council of Austria Wolfgang Sobotka. The sides found that Moldovan-Austrian relations have shifted to another level and bring real benefits to Moldovan citizens. Just yesterday, Moldovan President Maia Sandu on an official visit to Vienna had several important meetings.
"As we promised the citizens in the presidential and parliamentary elections, the current government in Chisinau aims to modernize the country by cleaning up the public corruption system, reforming the judiciary and improving the business environment," said Igor Grosu.
In the context of the pandemic, the speaker thanked for the generous help from Austria, and for the recognition of Covid-19 vaccination certificates, which will ensure the mobility of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. Another topic addressed was related to energy security.
As regards the parliamentary relationship, it was agreed to continue interparliamentary cooperation by assigning a systematic nature to reciprocal visits at different levels, including at the level of parliamentary committees and parliamentary friendship groups, which will allow for the effective approach of several strategic areas.
