Chisinau, 10 April /MOLDPRES/- About 6,200 children were poisoned by chemicals over the past five years, of whom 18 died. The data were presented by the National Agency for Public Health, which created a working group to work out a practical guide for the prevention of acute intoxications of chemical etiology among children.
According to the National Agency for Public Health, most cases of intoxication among minors were those caused by drugs – 2728, alcohol – 878, gas – 560 and pesticides – 232 cases.
Among the causes leading to poisoning are: free access of children to chemicals, marketing of tear aerosols and pesticides in unauthorized places, lack of optimal control over the legality of repackaging in ampoules, packages and other different containers of the listed products, the low level of knowledge of the population about the danger of chemicals on health and life, including familiarization of children by parents and teachers about the real danger of chemicals on health.
The guide will be worked out with the support of specialists of the Sfanta Treime municipal hospital, the Mother and Child Institute, General Police Inspectorate, General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and is dedicated to the education of teachers and parents in preventing acute intoxications of chemical etiology among children.
The guide will be based on the studies and researches carried out by ANSP specialists. On 7 May 2018 the draft project will be presented and considered, so that in the first half of August 2018 it will be completed and submitted to the educational institutions in the country.
