New official round of 5+2 talks on Transnistrian settlement held in Rome

Chisinau, 30 May /MOLDPRES/ – On 29 – 30 May in Rome, under aegis of the Italian Presidency within OSCE, a new official meeting of the Permanent Conference on Political Issues in the Transnistrian settlement process has taken place (negotiation format "5+2"), the office for reintegration policy’s information and media communication service has reported.
The works of meeting were dedicated to examining progress made by Chisinau and Tiraspol within implementation of commitments set in so-called Berlin plus package, as well as exchanging views on measures that need to be taken later for final settlement in accordance with commitments assumed and agreed parameters.
The mediators and observers have greatly appreciated implementation of agreed agreements on ensuring good functioning of Transnistrian-speaking Latin schools, apostille of study papers, start of process of assessing the technical condition of the bridge between villages Gura – Bacului and Bacioc, as well as urged parties to finalise settlement of issue of ensuring that farmers in Dubasari district have access to agricultural land located along road Ribnita – Tiraspol, as to establish a viable mechanism for implementing protocol decision upon organisation of telecommunication interaction of 25 November 2017 and ensure starting procedures to provide access to international road traffic for vehicles in the Transnistrian region.
Related to other two current issues on agenda (issues of files and free movement), it was reiterated the need to identify solutions corresponding to those agreed in Berlin and Vienna protocols of the "5 + 2" negotiation sessions of 2017 and 2018, in the provisions of point 5 of protocol decree on use of agricultural land of 25 November 2017, and taking into account indispensability of removing all barriers to free movement of inhabitants on both banks of the Dniester river.
It has been confirmed willingness of parties to gather their efforts towards achieving concrete results, with a rhythmical maintenance of the activities at all levels of negotiation process, continuation of productive interaction as to solve other current problems faced by inhabitants of both banks of the Dniester river.
At the meeting chief negotiator of Chisinau, Deputy Premier Cristina Lesnic reiterated and pointed out necessity of completing issue of ensuring the full functionality of bridge Gura Bacului – Bacioc localities, re – launching work of human rights working groups, avoiding agenda approach of issues related to bilateral relations of Moldova and Ukraine (for instance: joint control onto central segment of Moldovan – Ukrainian border), delivery of concrete benefits to population on both banks of the Dniester river, exclusion of situations of unpredictability and confusion.
As a result of talks in format "5+2" of negotiations, a protocol of the meeting was signed, which will serve as a basis for the further development of the Transnistrian settlement process.
