Chisinau, 20 June /MOLDPRES/ - Actions of hooliganism committed on the territory or at the headquarters of a public or private medical institution will be sanctioned with a fine worth up to 68,000 lei or five years of imprisonment, under a draft on amendment to the Criminal Code, positively notified by the government today.
According to the Justice Ministry, these amendments are necessary in order to provide enhanced protection to medical employees against physical, psychic and verbal aggression.
The draft law on the amendment and completion of Moldova’s Criminal Code proposes a new version of the norm, provided for in the Article 150, which sees exclusion from the law’s text of those four alternative ways of the harmful deed: persecution, defamation, offence and systematic humiliation of dignity.
Statistics data shows that about 100-120 cases of different forms of violence against medical staff, including verbal, psychological or even physical abuse, are annually recorded in Moldova.
The last case took place at the Hospital No 1, when a head of section was carried to the Emergency Hospital with two broken ribs, after being beaten by the husband of a woman who had died at the medical institution.
