Moldova bans operating flights with Boeing 737-8, 737-9 aircraft

Chisinau, 13 March /MOLDPRES/- The flight operation of aircraft of Boeing 737-8 MAX and 737-9 MAX by Moldovan air operators and foreign air carriers flying to, from or above the territory of Moldova was prohibited. A directive to this effect was issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Moldova (AAC) today.
Under the document, from 13 March 2019, 10:00 (UTC), it is forbidden operation of Boeing 737-8 MAX and 737-9 MAX aircraft, all serial numbers, by air operators in the Republic of Moldova and foreign air carriers operating flights to, from or above the territory of Moldova.
According to AAC, the directive was issued as a precautionary measure for the safety of passengers, crew and people on the ground in the Republic of Moldova in the context of the 10 March 2019 aviation accident, involving the Boeing Model 737-8 MAX aircraft operated by Ethiopian Airlines and an accident of the same type aircraft Lion Air 610, which took place on 29 October 2018.
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) decided on 12 March to suspend all flights to Europe with Boeing 737-8 and 9 MAX aircraft, following the aviation tragedy in Ethiopia on Sunday.
