Chisinau, 15 March /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s delegation, at a 14 March meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC), continued efforts to include into the agenda the issue on the “border guard” posts, illegally set by the Transnistrian side in the Security Zone.

In Moldova’s declaration, as well as in the speeches of the country’s representatives, the illegal and military character of the “border guards” forces was highlighted. Besides the fact that the presence of the “border guard” forces runs counter the Moldovan-Russian ceasefire agreement from 21 July 1992 (main document of the process of negotiations and of the peacekeeping operation), they hinder the free movement of persons and goods, as the people are intimidated and subjected to illegal procedures of verification, registration and imposed to pays unforeseen bills.

Tiraspol’s representatives in the Commission opposed the taking a decision on the these posts this time again and tried to promote the idea that these armed formations would have the role to prevent the resumption of the armed conflict.

Russia’s position was set forth by the co-head of the Commission, Ilya Uvarov, who said that he conceived the “border guard” posts as a reality and does not see in them a factor of limiting the right to free movement.

The participants in the same meeting blocked a proposal by the Moldovan delegation to enforce a JCC decision, taken back in March 2008, through which the military observers of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces were to visit all military objects from the Security Zone, in order to learn which was really the situation and assess the risks of eventual escalations of the situation.

The participants in the meeting brought to knowledge the developments recorded in the activity of the working groups, coordinated by representatives of Ukraine and OSCE Mission in Moldova’ delegated to the Joint Control Commission. Thus, the members of the groups on the peacekeeping posts gave final touches to the tasks for the Joint Military Command, which till 9 April 2019 will accumulate and present the materials due to allow the consideration of circumstances for the unilateral placement by the Transnistrian side of the post in the Zagornoe settlement.

Three cases of discovery of ammunitions from the times of the World War II were fixed in the report on the situation in the Security Zone for 6-12 March 2019. Such ammunitions were found in soil while carrying out agricultural works in households of the settlements Dubasari, Serpeni and Chitcani. They were evacuated from there and are to be destroyed in the established way under the control of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces.
