Two persons detained following searches at State Fiscal Service of Moldova

Chisinau, 19 March /MOLDPRES/ - Two persons have been detained for 72 hours and another two ones are heard as suspects following searches held by employees of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes (PCCOCS) and officers of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) at the State Fiscal Service (SFS) today.
According to data by PCCOCS, the four persons are suspected of fiscal evasion and swindle. Investigations found out that, starting from 2018, two economic agents registered in the Transnistrian region, by including distorted data on incomes, had evaded the payment of value added tax (VAT) worth over three million lei.
They submitted to SFS acts with false content and benefited from the return of VAT, thus causing a damage amounting to about one million lei to the state budget. An employee of the State Fiscal Service got involved in the corruption scheme too.
Today, PCCOCS prosecutors, jointly with SIS, made searches at residences of decision-makers of the enterprises involved, as well as at the office of an employee of the State Fiscal Service.
If found guilty, the suspects run the risk of being sentenced to up to five years of imprisonment.
