Foreign affairs minister meets new UN Development Programme's Resident Representative in Moldova

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as well as the priorities of the mandate of the new UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova represented the main subjects of a discussion between Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi and Dima Al-Khatib, recently appointed to this office, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s press service has reported.
Minister Tudor Ulianovschi highlighted the continuity of the integrating role of UNDP in the cooperation with other agencies and programmes from the UN system, especially at the country level. The Moldovan diplomacy head voiced hope that UNDP’s expertise and support in the process of implementing the provisions of the 2030 Agenda, which has recently become integral part of the Moldova 2030 National Development Strategy, would further represent a telling example of sustainable initiatives, aimed at strengthening the economy, social impact and protecting the environment.
For her part, Dima Al-Khatib noted that, during her mandate, she would try to support Moldova in achieving the priority goals. She stressed that “there is an efficient partnership between the government of Moldova and the United Nations Development Programme, as both sides contribute, to an equal extent, to projects’ implementation.”
At the meeting, Tudor Ulianovschi and Dima Al-Khatib reviewed the principal projects carried out by the UNDP team in Moldova, with priority emphasis put on the country programme’s goals (2018 – 2022), which fully fits the Moldovan cabinet’s priorities and the country’s commitments of reformation and modernization. According to the two officials, they represent an important support in turning to good account the human capital, protection and promotion of human rights and Moldova’s transiting towards a development with low emissions and resistance to climate changes.
Minister Tudor Ulianovschi wished the new UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova success in exercising her highly responsible mandate. He assured the UN official of the Moldovan authorities’ every willingness and openness for the advancement of the process of implementation and carrying out sustainable development projects, as well as cooperation between the government of Moldova and UNDP.
