Agriculture ministry hosted meeting - Moldova-EU

Chisinau, 25 October /MOLDPRES/- Moldova hosted the 6th meeting of Moldova-European Union Association Subcommittee, Cluster V - Agriculture, rural development, fisheries and maritime policies, regional development, cross-border and regional cooperation. At the meeting, held late last week, Chisinau delegation together with members of the European Commission had in videoconference format discussions aimed at the progress and challenges in agriculture and rural development.
"The event is a platform for monitoring the success of harmonizing national legislation with that of the European Union, in the areas of profile, based on the Association Agreement. Through determination and proactive attitude, the Republic of Moldova has achieved all its objectives in the process of harmonizing the legislation set for this year, being a priority component for the Government of Chisinau ", said Vasile Sarban, State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA).
According to the official, among the registered successes can be listed: the adoption, for the first time, of the Law on local action groups, which offers them the possibility to register as legal entities; initiating the procedure for amending three Government decisions, in order to improve the subsidy mechanism; completion of the first draft of the National Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (NARDS) 2022-2027, which incorporates the objectives and priorities of the EU's common agricultural policy; preparation of a system for monitoring and evaluation of strategic indicators; the approval of two national sectoral programs (beekeeping and horticulture) in 2020, as well as the progressive approach in the elaboration of the programs of the zootechnical sector, of the aromatic and medicinal plants and of the ecological agriculture; approximation in national legislation of 35 European acts, based on the preliminary internal evaluation, out of a total of 43 acts, etc.
At the same time, Vasile Şarban expressed gratitude to the EU partners for the technical and financial support offered to our country in strengthening the administration capacities of the sectors.
European officials voiced hope that the pandemic situation will be overcome next year, so that the next meeting will be held in physical format, in Brussels.
